Update on Fuel consumption - Still bad?

Its been a little while since I wrote a post about MPG for my E52 so thought it was time for an update!  You might want to read my earlier post here first:

https://www.e52lowdown.com/2021/11/elgrand-e52-mpg-how-bad-is-it-really.html

I have covered 6500 miles since I wrote my last post about this and have been recording my miles along with fuel intake the whole time, and also tried a couple of things to improve it along the way.  Just to recap for you, my driving style is very much to the speed limit, so my bus is at 70mph on a motorway rather than in the slow lane trundling along at 55 where I am sure you would be able to improve on these figures.

The table below shows the first set of figures that I recorded and is largely similar to the previous post. It is a very slight improvement but that could be that I am being more careful and not seeing what my V6 can do.

At this point I was looking at any other ways I could improve my efficiency and saw some articles about Redex.  Apparently it helps to clean your fuel lines and engine which in turn boosts its efficiency so that it isn't working against debris and sludge. I used a 500ml bottle of Redex over three tanks of fuel.

I also required new tyres as the existing Japanese tyres were starting to crack.  I researched the options and chose to put on four brand new Michelin Primacy 4 tyres.  My Elsie also had some odd size tyre on it before which was wider than the Nissan recommended which was also making my speedo more inaccurate.  At 70mpg my old tyres were around 10% over, and with my new Michelins it is now around 6%.

With these changes, surely my MPG is now going to be amazing!  Here you go...

One thing I do have to remember with these figures is that my new tyres have most likely made the numbers worse and better at the same time.  The tyres themselves are rated as good fuel efficiency, but now that my gauge is more accurate my KMs are going up (a tiny bit) slower.

I think I have improved the efficiency but its still not anything you would be able to boast about.  There is some talk on one of the Facebook groups of resetting the ECU which I might try next, although aftter that I think I am out of options.  I think us Elgrand owners have to remember it is a 3.5 litre V6 engine and getting mid 20s for MPG is maybe already doing well.

I will keep you posted.
